Das gelebte Haus

Everything is transient. Yet, we often find ourselves clinging to material objects tied to personal memories.

The point of departure for my book Das gelebte Haus (The House Lived) is my grandmother’s move to a more suitable home. The former residence on Rheingasse in the old town of Basel serves me as a projection surface for the process of an involuntary release of personally charged stories.

Now an empty shell, the bare rooms reveal traces of objects and their former uses. My own installations in the rooms, together with projections of old photographs from the family album, aim to evoke and revive memories.
